Holiday Ideas for Our Troops
The holidays are approaching us quickly. As is Veterans Day which is November 11th. I would like to encourage each of you to support a Veteran in "your way".
Here are just a few ideas on where your supportis needed.
- I am making lap quilts for this group American Hero Quilts
- They do not have to be fancy or just red, white and blue. If you don not have time to quilt a donation of fabric will also help. This group also makes quilts for children who have lost a parent. This group is in my area of Washington. Wounded soldiers who recieve these laps quilts are from the four bases we have in the area along with the Veterans Hospital.
- Donna, a quilter makes quilts for the group Quilts of Valor
- They find the wounded through military chaplains at military and VA medical centers throughout the US, Europe and in Iraq and Afghanistan.
- You can find soldiers in any branch of the service at Any Soldier Here you can find a list of acceptable items any soldier would like to receive. You are able to pick a specific branch of the military if you have a favorite. It can be something as simple as a box of cookies, lip gloss, baby wipes, reading material, food items. Believe me, they are grateful for any items received.
- When you are making out your Christmas card list this year, also include one for the following address:
-
- A Recovering American Soldier
- c/o
Walter Reed Army Medical Center 6900 Georgia Avenue, NW ,Washington D.C. 20307-5001
